FIX A LEAK is a blended-concentrated material designed to seal minor leaks in the plumbing. One 8 oz. bottle is effective for hot tubs and spas ranging from 250-1000 gallons (950-3785 liters).

When fixing a hot tub or spa the water temperature should be no less than 70°F or 21°C.

Hot tub and spa leaks can be detected by notable water loss not caused by evaporation, a wet spot on the ground, or possibly a slow drip coming out of the foam insulation. If the foam insulation surrounding the tub or spa is saturated with water the hot tub or spa has been leaking for a prolonged period of time.

The 32 oz. pool size bottle can be used for hot tub and spa repair if the 8 oz. bottle cannot be acquired. By using 1/3 of the 32 oz. bottle or less follow the same directions for a hot tub or spa leak. If water loss exceeds 1 inch in a 24-hour period it may be beneficial to purchase the 32 oz bottle for multiple applications if needed.

Most repairs in hot tubs and spas will last between 1-2 years.

HOT TUBS AND SPAS

  1. Determine water loss in a 24-hour period. Fill spa to the original water level.

  2. Immerse bottle in hot water for 15 minutes. Shake well before use.

  3. Remove all the cartridge filters.

  4. Pour the entirety of the 8 oz bottle into the filter intake or directly into the spa.

  5. Day One: Run the spa for 4-6 hours alternating between the low and high speed jets. This step requires supervision. If the spa has only one speed, run the jets in 15 minute on/off increments for a total of 4-6 hours.

  6. Day Two: Brush the bottom of the spa before following the same steps as Day One. Adding more product is not necessary at this time.

  7. Once comfortable the leak has stopped, allow 48 hours with the spa off to confirm no further water loss.

  8. Drain the spa after 48 hours as long as night temperatures remain above 40°F or 4°C. While emptying the tub, rinse and wipe down the sides with a warm soft cloth to remove any residue that may be present on the spa surface. If not done properly a white residue will remain. Allow the spa to sit empty for 4-7 days. The draining process allows air to get to the inside of the plumbing helping the product to cure and creating a longer lasting seal.

  9. Reinstall filters, refill spa and resume normal operation.

COLD WEATHER PRECAUTIONS

Do not use more than 16 oz of FIX A LEAK if the outdoor temperature is near or below freezing. The draining method is not suitable for this scenario and the remainder of the product will have to be filtered out. Follow the instructions above, but instead of draining reinstall the filters and run all of the jets for 2-4 hours. Remove the filters and clean thoroughly with warm water while still wet to remove the product. The cleaning process can be repeated if necessary. The filters can then be reinstalled and normal operation resumed. This application should get the spa through the winter season. Another application may be required once the outdoor temperatures are above freezing.

SWIMMING POOLS

FIX A LEAK is a blended-concentrated material designed to seal minor leaks in swimming pools, losing up to 1 inch in a 24 hour period. FIX A LEAK is effective for leaks up to 1/8 inch in diameter. One 32 oz. size bottle is good for 22,000 gallons (100,000 liters.)

The product is used mainly for leaks in the plumbing where you must provide the circulation for the product to get to the location of the leak. It is the pressure that will force the product through the leak in the pipe.

FIX A LEAK can be effective for hairline crack leaks on the floor of a concrete or gunite pool. The product is heavier than water and will eventually settle to the bottom of the pool.

FIX A LEAK can be used for pinhole leaks in inground vinyl liner pools.

The longevity of the seal will depend on the amount of foot traffic that may occur on the bottom of the pool.

FIX A LEAK in most cases will form a long-lasting seal.

RETURN LINE REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS

  • Determine water loss in a 24-hour period.

  • Immerse bottle in hot water for 10-15 minutes. Shake well before use.

  • Fill the pool to the original level and mark the water line.

  • Bypass the filter before adding FIX A LEAK.

Sand Filter: Set filter valve to recirculate.

Cartridge Filter: Remove cartridges.

DE: Remove elements from tank, then proceed to run circulate through the empty tank.

  1. With the pump running, add FIX A LEAK slowly through the skimmer or in front of any other suction intake.

  2. After adding the FIX A LEAK adjust suction to the main drain. If this is not possible, the vacuum cleaner could be used alternatively. Place the vacuum in the deepest part of the pool and connect to the normal vacuum connection.

  3. FIX A LEAK is heavy and will sink to the lowest point rather quickly. It must be stirred back into suspension. This can be done manually using a pool broom or mechanically with an automated pool cleaner, every 4-6 hours during circulation of water.

  4. Continue to recirculate the water until the leak has stopped.

  5. Mark the level of water in the pool and check for 2-3 days to determine if the leak has stopped.

  6. After the leak has stopped and given 48 hours to cure return to normal filtration.

Sand Filters: Set the filter valve to filter and resume normal operation. Backwash out unused FIX A LEAK as required.

Other types: Reinstall filter into tank and resume operation. Rinse out unused FIX A LEAK from the filter as required.

DE: Never let cartridges of DE elements be left to dry before they are cleaned.

Note:

Treatment can be repeated if necessary.
